The exhibition staged by Institute of Home Sciences depicting their role, problems and their contribution for the development and prosperity of the country. UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Zafar Iqbal Randhawa inaugurated the expo. He was flanked with Faculty of Food, Nutrition and Home Sciences Dean Dr Masood Sadiq Butt, Director Home Sciences Dr Ayesha Riaz, Vice Chairperson Human Rights Committee, Punjab Advocate Rao Kanwal Shahzadi, Shazia George Project Director AWAM, Nutritionist Dr Binish Sarwar, Marketing and Communication Manager Serena Hotel Mahak, Lecturer Hira Iftikhar and other notables.
Talking to participants, Dr Zafar Iqbal said that women had played an important role in the socio-economic activities and development of the country. He said Islam gives women the great respect, and importance and it is the biggest upholder of women’s rights. The rights and respect the Islam, which has given to the women as mothers, sisters and daughters and wives, have no parallel in any civilization. Islam had given the right of inheritance to women fourteen year ago. Before the advent of Islam, the humans were living in the dark and ignorance and then women had been deprived of their basic rights. He said the role models for the Muslim women were Syeda Khadija (RA), Syeda Fatimah (RA), Syeda Ayesha (RA), Syeda Zainab (RA ) and others. women have to follow in their footprints.
Dr Masood Sadiq Butt said that 50 percent of the population was comprising women. He lauded the role and sacrifices of the women for a healthy and prosperous society. He said that women effective role in the brought-up of kids are guranttee of the bright future. He said that women entrepreneurship and empowerment played pivotal role in socio-economic empowerment of all underdeveloped countries like Pakistan. He said that the women were properly aware about malnutrition and healthy food habit issue, they can play effective role to bring a healthy society.
Dr Ayesha Riaz said that with the adoption of the Islamic lifestyle, we can address the different challenges facing the humanity. She said that 70 percent of the women are harassed at the workplace that is matter of grave concern. The situation provokes unrest in the whole family of the victim. She also lamented that divorce rate was also rising in the society for which we have to work on attitude and promote tolerances in the society.
