The University of Agriculture Faisalabad on Friday took out a walk to create awareness about women health and nutrition issues.
The walk which was led by UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Iqbal Zafar commenced from Iqbal Auditorium and concluded at Admin Block. It was arranged by Institute of Home Science, Faculty of Food, Nutrition, and Home Sciences. The faculty Dean, Dr Masood Sadiq Butt, Home Sciences Incharge Dr Ayesha Riaz, faculty members and scores of students took part int eh walk . Talking to participants, Dr Muhammad Iqbal Zafar said that according to National Nutrition Survey, the women were facing massive micronutrient deficiencies. As many as 51 per cent of women were anaemic, 47 per cent suffering from zinc deficiency, 46 per cent from vitamin A deficiency and 68 per cent from vitamin D deficiency. He said that it was need of the hour to educate public about balanced usage of diet and healthy lifestyle. He said that lack of the awareness, changing lifestyle and affordability issues were deepening malnutrition crisis at national level. Dr Masood Sadiq Butt said that 50 percent of population was facing malnutrition. He called for food fortification to address the issue of malnutrition and food insecurity. He said that effective measures are needed to educate the people about healthy diet and way of life. Dr Ayesha Riaz said that they were making all-out efforts to create awareness about women health and malnutrition issue.
