The Faculty of Food, Nutrition and Home Sciences University of Agriculture Faisalabad took out a rally to mark World Heart Day. The walk was led by UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Iqbal Zafar. It was started from Admin Block and concluded at the Faculty of Agriculture. Deans Dr Masood Sadiq Butt, Dr Allah Bush and National Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFSAT) Director General Dr Tahir Zahoor and a large number of faculty members students participated. They were holding placards and banners inscribed with awareness quotes about the heart diseases.
Addressing on the occasion, the Vice Chancellor said that unhealthy diets and inactivity are the main causes of cardiovascular diseases, and diabetes etc. He said that awareness is prerequisite for timely diagnosis and treatment of heart diseases. The majority of heart diseases are treatable. Therefore, complications from them can be avoided. He said that the country was facing a health crisis with rising rates in cardiovascular diseases. He stressed upon the need to take measures to addressing behavioral risk factors including unhealthy diet, obesity, and tobacco use etc for preventing cardiovascular diseases. He said that World Heart Day is aimed at spreading awareness about the health of heart among common people. The day was established in 2000. Dr Masood Sadiq Butt said that sedentary lifestyle, lack of sleep, consumption of junk food and smoking are the reasons to develop heart disease. He said that abnormal blood lipid (fat) have a high correlation with coronary diseases and heart attack. He said that people must spare time for exercise and walk that will prevent them from many diseases.
