The weed eradication campaign will be kicked off from March 4 to March 12 across the province as an initiative of the Punjab government. It is aimed at promotion the latest weed eradication tools for productivity enhancement.
Addressing the prize distribution ceremony of posters’ competition on Weed Control arranged by Agrarian Society University of Agriculture Faisalabad, UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar A Khan lauded the steps being taken on the part of the government for the development of the agriculture sector. He said that Punjab Agriculture Policy was being revamped that will not only increase the productivity but also address the problems of the farming community. He said that the weeds are the enemies of agriculture production and weeds cause the loss of the water, productivity and land. He said by controlling the weeds, we can not only increase the production but also the income of farming community. Dean Faculty of Agriculture Dr Muhammad Amjad said the contest was aimed at highlighting the issues of the weeds among the public in general; and farming community in particular. He urged farmers to increase use of technology at all stages of crop production. The first position was bagged by Aroosa Fatima and Mahmour Baig while Mohsin Ali and Azhar Ali got the second whereas Hafsa Tahir stood third in the contest. Aroosa Fatima said that such contest helps the students to showcase their hidden abilities and provide them a platform to give voice to their ideas.
