The Institute of Home Sciences, University of Agriculture Faisalabad took out women cycling rally and organized slogan and sculpture display depicting different phases of women empowerment to mark 16 days of Activism against gender-based violence. The 16-day was announced by the United Nations to eradicate the gender based violence globally.
The women cycling rally of 1 kilometer was started from the Institute of Home Science in which more than 40 students took part. Talking to the participants, Institute Chairperson Dr Farah Riaz said women empowerment was prerequisite to compete with the rest of the world. She said that the country population comprises 50 percent of women. It is the need of hour to en ensure their participation in economic activities and to fight taboos being made on name of gender discrimination She said a hostel for 1000 female students was established funded by Punjab Government and another hostel for thousand women was coming up with the funding of federal government. Dr Izhar Ahmad Khan said the UAF was taking all-out efforts to promote the cycling in the women in order to develop a culture of women empowerment that facilitate them to cover the distance from classroom to field easily. He praised the initiatives of Punjab government for the women empowerment. He said that such initiatives would pave the way to make the development by putting the women as equal partner towards prosperity and to compete with the rest of the world. Dr Binish Asad that the country can’t make the development without involving the women in the economic activities. Lecturer Kiran also applauded the initiatives being taken on the part of the government for the women empowerment.
