Sacrifice of the first martyred Pakistani Flying Officer Maryam Mukhtar was remembered at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad on her first death anniversary to pay her rich tribute and be a role model for the whole nation. Special play Aik thy maryam was displayed at the Iqbal Auditorium in which a large tens of hundreds of the students participated.
The ceremony was arranged by Institute of Home Sciences, UAF. Addressing on the occasion, MPA Surraya Azeem said women were playing marvelous role in every field of life and now they are forwarding their steps towards national defence. She said that Maryam is a symbol of achievement for all Pakistani women and all nation is committed for the defence of the country. She said that that the women were proving their mettle in the every field of life. She said that the women are capable to prove themselves in all walks of life giving strength to male force with national enthusiasm. She said that the government was taking all the measures to empower the women as we can’t make the development without their active participation in the socio-economic activities. Institute of Home Sciences Director Dr Farah Riaz said that women in different roles in the society like sisters mothers, daughters etc always think about others before themselves and Maryam also showed this spirit and embraced martyrdom. She said that they were running the project on the women empowerment in collaboration with Aurat Foundation and US Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Agriculture and Food Security. She said that they were creating the awareness among the society about the women empowerment and their rights. Dr Izhar Ahmad Khan said that Maryam Mukhtar is a symbol of courage for all and her services would be written in golden words in pages of the history. He said women were playing an intensive role model not only as a house keeper but also as the working force in all aspects of life. He said that the university was taking all out efforts for the women empowerment. He said that the university was also distributing bicycles among the UAF students to easily move without any dependency. He also said that women comprises half of our population and without their participation in the socio economic activities, we can not make the development. Dr Binish Asad said rural women should be given awareness to realize their economic and cultural rights. We will not achieve the sustainable development if we could not achieve gender equality
