Speakers at a workshop called for creating awareness and adopting food safety measures to overcome the food hazards and ensuring safe health for the public.
It was echoed at 2-day training workshop on culinary arts and formal serving techniques concluded here at Institute of Home Sciences, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. The participants were also enlightened about food hazards, physical and chemical hazards, sanitation techniques, safety measures, and personal hygiene. Dean, Faculty of Food, Nutrition and Food Sciences Prof. Dr. Masood Sadiq Butt, while distributing the certificates, said that if we ensure the healthy food and lifestyle, the issue of increasing ailment and malnutrition can be addressed effectively. He said that establishment of Punjab Food Authority was a hallmark step which is bringing tangible result regarding providing safe and hygienic food for the people. Director, Institute of Home Sciences Dr. Farah Riaz said that unhygienic food caused ailments and adding the people to the hospitals . She said that safety measures must be adopted in the preparation of food. She said there was a dire need to train the cooks in line with the modern food serving and handling techniques. She said that lack of sanitation provokes many diseases. Workshop coordinator Hira Iftikhar stressed upon the need to keeping methods about nutritive value in view while cooking the food. She said that food should be cooked in a way that maintain the nutritive value. She said that workshop was aiming at equipping with hygiene, sanitation and safety in kitchens and serving etiquettes in which 22 members participated. Assistant coordinators Sana Arif and Saba Chaudhry gave lectures and demonstrated various techniques.
