The University of Agriculture Faisalabad took out an awareness walk on energy saving strategies in Faisalabad District as a step towards fighting energy crisis hitting the country.
The walk arranged by Department of Energy Systems Engineering under HEC Project was led by UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr.Iqrar Ahmad Khan who was flanked by Dean Faculty of Agri Engineering Prof Dr Allah Buksh, Dr. Anjum Munir, Chairman/Project Principle Investigator of the project, Dr. Abdul Ghafoor, Co-PI of Project and Dr. Abdul Naveed, Project Coordinator along with master and bachelor students of Energy Systems Engineering. It started from the Admin Block and ended at the faculty of Engineering and Technology. The participants were holding the placards inscribed with slogans about saving the energy. Addressing on the occasion, the Vice Chancellor stressed upon the need to use the alternative way of energy to face up to the challenges. He said that only from the viable potential of wind energy, as many as 20,000 MW can be produced. He said that the only from the biomass, 5000 MW can be produced. Talking about UAF, he said that University had initiated a BS Energy System Engineering programme to produce the manpower in the given subject. He said that Punjab Bio Energy Institute was set up at the campus that will help promote the bio energy in the country. Dr Allah Buksh said that energy is the lifeline for the industry, business and agriculture in the country. He said that alternative way of energy were essential to meet the energy demands which were boosting up with each passing year. He said that the country was having a lot of potential for the energy generation in term of sunlight, wind, and biomass that should be utilized for the purpose. Dr Munir Anjum said that the country had faced shortfall upto 6000 MW in the peak season. He said that we can produce plenty of energy from the solar energy if we promote the technology. He said that from the micro hydral 1200 MW can be produced. He said that agro waste can also used for the generation of the electricity. Dr. Munir Ahmad, Director General (PARC, Islamabad), Mr. Fritz Boehmler (Germany) and Mr. Zakir Hassan, Director Irrigation Department also participated in the walk. They also inaugurated a gasification of 20 KW of electricity installed at the campus.
