The University of Agriculture Faisalabad has set up country largest and a state-of-the-art hostel for 1000 girls that will be functional by next week.
This was stated by UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan while addressing a press briefing at the newly-constructed hostel. He said that the hostel was established with the funding of Punjab Government that had earmarked 400 million for the project. The hostel is providing latest facilities including sport complex, grounds, airy rooms and mosque etc. He said that University, by design, admits the students on district quota with a special focus on agriculture background and rural population. To meet the demand of increasing population, the University was expanding its infrastructure. He said that if we don’t provide the on campus residential facilities to the rural population, they won’t send their daughters to the universities. He said that the area from UAF Post Office to Gawindpura Gate had been surrounded by the houses and slums. He said that the University had set up Shahbaz Town and shifted the families of the slums to the colony comprising state-of-the-art 120 residential units. He said that premises of newly-constructed hostel was having a mosque that will be preserved but upgraded with the new facilities for female students. He also announced that Islamic Center will be set up here He said that the University was having 13 mosque and 26 hostels. Each hostel was also having its own mosques in it. He said university is making all-out efforts to provide the modern facilities to the students. He said that the enrollment of students is increasing due to which UAF is coming up with new initiatives including new buildings, sports facilities and laboratories. He also said that such basic necessaries are compulsory to be provided especially to girls. He also said that there are more buildings being constructed for various departments to overcome to student capacity issues and nearly by the end of this year three more blocks will be completed. He said that we have set up working women hostel, Day Care Center, five hostels at Postgraduate Agriculture Research Station and many others. He also said UAF has revamped academic, research and outreach programs and has introduced as many as 48 new Degree Programs in the recent years in order to produce demand-driven manpower. New academic disciplines have been added to narrow the knowledge gaps in energy sector, food industry, microbiology, biotechnology, environmental sciences, food and nutrition, climate change, pharmacy, IT sector, rural development and education. Public Relations and Publications Principal Officer Dr Jalal Arif said that in the recent US News and World Report on Education, the UAF is standing at 21st number worldwide in ISI listed publications in agricultural sciences. He said that the UAF was the only institution ranked among the top 100 varsities of the globe in any category.
