This was stated by University of Agriculture Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Prof Iqrar Ahmad Khan while a symposium on heart diseases held at the Center for Advanced Studies arranged by UAF in collaboration with Chughtais Lahore Lab Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said people are careless to adopt hygienic food habits, exercise and other preventive measures. He advised to make the workout a routine, it would prevent heart disease. He said every year 18.6 million people lose their lives due to cardiovascular diseases (CVD) at the global level, which is mainly caused by smoking, high blood pressure, obesity, and unhealthy lifestyle. He said that Asia has the highest number of patients with CVD. Of the 18.6 million CVD deaths in 2019 globally , as many as 58 percent have occurred in Asia. . He said that people with cardiovascular disease or who are at high cardiovascular risk due to the presence of one or more risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, or already established disease, need early detection and management using counseling and medicines, as appropriate.
Faisalabad Medical University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Ali Ch said that playgrounds are providing a deserted look as the youngsters are glued to the internet, mobile phone etc. He said that there is a need to address the cause of the increasing diseases which he pointed out unhealthy lifestyle and bad food habits. He urged the participants to adopt a healthy lifestyle and avoid junk food, obesity and use of drugs. He also stressed the need to create awareness about prevention against salt and sugar which he termed white poison. He called for exercising at least 15 minute in routine that will lead towards healthy life Renowned cardiologist Prof Dr Javed Iqbal from DHQ said that prevention is better than cure. He said unhealthy lifestyle, food habits and a lack of physical activities are increasing disease cases in the country. He said that one heart beats 10 million times a day. He said that health is a blessing and we have to adopt precautionary measures to live a healthy life. He also briefed about the different heart diseases and the different aspects. He stressed the need to control the problem of cardiovascular disease and other ailments in the initial phases. Dr Abdul Razaq from FIC said that high prevalence of CVD in the country is a result of sedentary lifestyle, fatty food, coupled with stress and genetic factors. He said that the world heart day is observed in Pakistan with an objective to raise awareness among people about cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and measures for its control. Principal Officer Medical and Health Service UAF Prof Dr Tariq Javed said there is absolutely no substitute for prevention through exercise and a healthy diet. Ignoring such preventive measures boost up the burden of heart disease and the cost of healthcare. On the occasion, UAF and Chughtais Lahore Lab inked a memorandum of understanding in the area of mutual concern. The MoU was duly signed by UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan and Sr Manager Corporate Sales Chughtais Lahore Lab Ahmad Khawaja, Prof Dr Waseem Akram, Lab Senior Regional Manager SM Hasnain Bukhari and others were also present on the occasion.
