The meeting also okayed Locust Research Cell and organic agriculture that will help the country address the agricultural challenges. The locust cell is working under the auspices of the Department of Entomology and Organic Agriculture Cell is functional at the Department of Agronomy. The House also approved Rs10.965 billion budget for the financial year 2020-21. Under which, HEC recurring budget is Rs 5.293 billion while Rs 3 billion has been earmarked for development budget from the federal and Punjab governments. and Rs 2.373 billion for research. The meeting okayed Rs 45 million for the Water Management Research Center, Rs 19.882 million for Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC), Rs11.28 million for Financial Assistance, and Rs 12.78 million for Sports. Prof. Dr Asif Tanveer stressed upon the scientists to come up with new varieties keeping the changing climate in view. He was of the view that resources and agriculture land were shrinking. He said that it was prerequisite to increase per acre-productivity and ensure food security in order to feed ever-increasing populations. He urged the agriculture experts to have strong relations with the farming community in order to address their problems. He said that university was opening up a new avenue of progress as Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2021, has declared the University 802nd best in the world universities. He stressed upon the need to work on war footing to fight the crisis to ensure the food security. He said that amid the current situation of COVID 19, online classes remained in full swings, enabling students to carry on their academic work as an initiative to encourage social distancing. He said that different learning management system, YouTube, LMS, and Zoom etc are being used by the faculty and students. Registrar Umar Saeed Qadri said that under the ICT project, Enterprise Resource Planning and Campus Management System being introduced as a step on campus on SAP cloud. He said that all possible measures were being taken to address the problems of the campus community.
