A consortium of Four Pakistani Agriculture Universities is going to Ink MOU with World Leading Seed Company “Monsanto” in order to promote Agricultural development and to introduce high quality seeds to Pakistan. The ceremony would be held at Islamabad on April 08, 2010 in which Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan, Vice Chancellor UAF as Leader of consortium Partner and Mr. Richard Gaudet as representative of Monsanto will sign the Accord. According to proposed Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) Monsanto as a leading Global provider of technology based tools and Agricultural Products that improved farm productivity and food quality will join hands with consortium of Four Pakistani AG- Universities, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (Lead Partner), NWFP Agricultural University Peshawar, Peer Mehr Ali Shah ARID Agricultural University, Rawalpindi and Sindh University of Agriculture, Tando-Jam have been agreed to work together in order to ensure effective supports from Universities, Monsanto’s Corn Technologies and products have gained success on the market while tremendously improving agricultural productivity as well as delivering benefits to farmers in Pakistan. It is worth mentioning that Monsanto and the consortium of Four-Pakistani Agricultural Universities were entered in to discussions in Islamabad and Lahore Pakistan, Washington D.C., St. Louis, Missouri as part of the delegation to the USA sponsored by the USAID funded Higher Education Commission financial & Development (HEC-FAD) program and the Academy for education, resultantly this Accord was finalized to be Inked in Islamabad. The purpose of this MOU is to memorialize a commitment of partnership between the parties to use the collective expertise to evaluate, develop and implement practical solutions to enhance Agricultural productivity in Pakistan through the commercialization of Monsanto’s technologies and other collaborative efforts. The parties agree that there is mutual benefit to be achieved through co-operative planning and execution of collaborative activities. After implementation of this Accord it is hoped that parties can evaluate, develop and implement practical solutions to enhance Agricultural productivity in Pakistan including joint research projects. Further more they will be enabled to provide information and education regarding the benefits and best uses of Monsanto technologies including products developed using modern bio-technology to the Pakistan Farmers, Industry and Other Stake-holders. This Co-operation will lead towards enhancement of over-all acceptance of products of modern bio-technology in Pakistan to the benefit of Pakistan’s Agricultural producers, consumers and others.
