Speakers at a ceremony urged the students to put their full efforts in their studies and termed them a beacon of light for the uplift of the country. They were addressing an inaugural ceremony of students’ magazine “Kisht-e-Nau 2008” here at new senate hall of University of Agriculture Faisalabad on Tuesday morning. UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan presided over the ceremony while Editor in Chief Daily Pakistan Majeeb-ur-Rehaman Shami was the chief guest and anchor person program “Front Line” Express News, Kamran Shahid was the guest of honor on the occasion.



Addressing the participants, veteran journalist and SVP of APNS Mr. Mujeeb ur Rehman Shami said that for each mistake there is remedy but in judiciary and journalism there is absolutely no remedy of even a minor mistake which puts long term effects on the nations. He underscored the need for focusing on education as there is not more than 5% youth can reach in the institutions of higher learning. Mr. Mujeeb ur Rehman Shami asked the youth to be a vibrant part of national development as they are about 50% of population and can become a beacon of light in the society. He appreciated the efforts of UAF in brining forward the pleasant vistas of the society by extending its outreach program in rural areas.



Speaking on the occasion seasoned anchorperson of electronic media Mr. Kamran Shahid emphasized the need to root out such journalism trends based on hypocrisy and sensationalism which demoralizes the nations and forced the economy and investment towards decline. Referring to a BBC program, he said that a reporter alleged the British Prime Minister Tony Blair of telling a lie regarding Iraq war but when he failed to explain position in court, he along with whole management of BBC tendered their resignations and asked for pardon from the PM but in Pakistan we used to see a marathon of lies in print as well as electronic channels. He told that in Pakistan mean age is not more than 60 years but we need to act responsibly as Pakistan is in need of such journalistic practices. He told the gathering that today Journalism in Pakistan is only to please particular personalities and destabilize the institutions by indulging them into non-significant issues.



Prof. Dr. Iqrar A Khan Vice Chancellor said that the technology transfer in the field of agriculture, which is backbone of country, requires best communication skills. Keeping in view the requirement, the university is setting up career counseling centre costing 10 million rupees that would polish the communication skills of the students so that they could enjoy a bright future and would work for the development of the country, he added. The Vice Chancellor pointed out that every year, one billion $ is being spent on the students going abroad for higher education from our country. He said that the total budget of the higher education commission is 22 billion rupees. The commission is putting its full endeavor for providing quality education to the students in the line with international standards, he added. However, the more investment in the education sector can more flourish the sector. He informed the participants that UAF administration is providing adequate facilities to the students thereby to outlet and voice their thoughts.

Addressing the participants Prof. Dr. Zafar Iqbal Qureshi Director Students’ Affairs thanked the guests and cooperation extended by editorial team of Kish-e-Nau in making a dream to come true in a short possible time. Dr. Muhammad Jalal Arif Principal Officer PRP thanked the guests and participants for gracing the ceremony. Later the guests distributed shields among the editorial members of the magazine.
