Department of Public Relations and Publications - UAF VC Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan addresses the oath taking ceremony of Pakistan Society of Agronomy - July 29, 2009

Due to favorable weather conditions and farmer friendly policies of the Government of Pakistan, the cereal production has touched the volume of 38 million tons which is ten million ton surplus. This was stated by Agricultural Development Commissioner Dr. Qadir Bukhsh Bloch while addressing the installation ceremony of Pakistan Society of Agronomy here at Old Senate Hall on Wednesday morning.

Dr. Bloch maintained that Punjab Government has also utilized its utmost efforts to procure 9.2 million ton wheat as compared to last year procured wheat 4.5 million tons. He maintained that agronomy is basic tool of high productivity in agriculture sector and scientists can play vital role to educate the small farmers with latest agronomic practices.



Dr. Qadir Bukhsh Baloch lauded the selection system of UAF in which merit is being observed at highest level. He added that marketing system in agriculture should be redefined and redesigned. He urged the social scientists to transform high values in rural community in order to obtain coordinated efforts.

UAF VC Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan during his address as chief guest said that transgenic crops are the need of the hour as neighboring countries are obtaining manifold productivity by adopting this technique. Dr. Khan added that government has announced Rs. 10 million grant for the establishment of ever first agricultural technology park at UAF campus in which eight private sector institutes will also exhibit their technologies.

Prof. Dr. Zahid Atta Cheema newly elected president of Pakistan Society of Agronomy highlighted the salient feathers of the society and said that it has provincial as well as regional chapters in various parts of the country. He added that Blochistan and Sindh chapters will be opened very soon.

Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan later on, administered the oath to office bearers of the society vice president NWFP chapter Prof Dr. Inyatullah Khan, vice president Punjab chapter Mr. Abdus Sattar, General Secretary Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Akram, Treasurer Anwar-ul-Haq, and joint secretary Abbass Ali.
