Department of Parasitology - Overview

The department of Parasitology is offering different undergraduate and post graduate courses to the students of DVM, MPhil and PhD. There are three research groups in the department, which are responsible for the research in field of chemotherapy, immuno-parasitology and epidemiology of parasitic diseases.

Objectives:

  • To provide students with basic knowledge of different parasitic diseases, their diagnosis, control and treatment
  • To train the manpower in the field chemotherapy, epidemiology and immuno-parasitology
  • To provide diagnostic services to farmers
  • To train farmers in the field of Parasitology

Vision:
Establishment of Ethno-veterinary medicine center and up-gradation of department to National Institute of Parasitology.

Achievements:

  • Local vaccines has been developed and evaluated for the control of avian coccidiosis.
  • Identified different species of parasites prevailing in Pakistan
  • Ascertained role of ticks in transmission of different diseases
  • Developed a control package for hydatidosis, hypoderma and various helminthes.
  • Various plants have been identified and evaluated for their anti-parasitic activity, which can be used as an alternative to allopathic drugs
