Research Intersts: Environmental stresses are major constraints to the productivity of crops throughout the world. It is therefore imperative that mechanisms and causes of the stress effects on plant growth and development may be determined systematically, and strategies may be adopted to overcome adverse effects of stresses in order to achieve maximum productivity from the salinity, high temperature and drought-hit areas. My current interests are focused on the expression of stress proteins and other stress related primary and secondary metabolites under water, salinity, heat and cadmium stresses, and finding strategies to fetch greater yields under such conditions. Among various crops, major emphasis is on wheat, barley, rice, sugarcane and maize.
Research Intersts:
Research Intersts: Breeding and genetics of high yielding, early maturing, disease resistant wheat. Development of advance lines tolerant to various abiotic stresses. Exploitation of other minor cereals as supplement grain food along with wheat.
Research Intersts: Sunflower improvement for high quality oil and oil yield. Development of local inbred lines in sunflower for hybrid variety development
Research Intersts: Plant breeding is the science and business of crop improvement. It is an innovation based sector, focused on developing plants better adapted to the environment and to human needs. I am handling two Farm & Research Projects, for production of surplus green fodder as well as seed in berseem, oats, sorghum and maize. Additionally, I am working on development of multicut, Sorghum-Sudangrass hybrid plants having better nutritional quality (particularly protein contents) to satisfy the degree of hunger in livestock during extreme summers. I am also working on development of fodder crops, which can successfully cope the climate-resilient factors (abiotic and biotic) and could provide more benefits with minimum application of inputs (fertilizer, irrigation, weedicides/pesticides). As, Today’s Plant Breeding is more than just producing varieties of crops/seeds. That’s why, I am focusing on different issues related to genetic conservation, crop production, farm management, and profitability keeping in view the market conditions.
Research Intersts: Member of research group “Maize and pulses” of the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan. Development of inbred lines and maintenance of elite germplasm of maize with a high degree of genetic diversity for population improvement, identification and evaluation of maize germplasm with quality attributes for the development of hybrids of industrial importance, study of drought tolerance based diversity among maize accessions at molecular level. Molecular marker study for wilt resistance in chickpea, use of molecular, physiological and biochemical markers in the study of biotic and abiotic stresses in pulses.
Research Intersts: Development of high yielding and early maturing cotton verities using conventional and modern biotechnological tools. Breeding cotton against different biotic and a biotic stresses.
Research Intersts: I am interested in the identification and development of heat and salt tolerance in upland cotton by using small tools available in field, greenhouse and laboratory conditions. Besides, I am also involved in the improvement of cotton germplasm for seed cotton yield and fiber parameters according to the standards prescribed by various agencies in Pakistan.
