Position & Department: Director/Associate Professor, Department of Energy Systems Engineering, Faculty of Agricultural Engineering & Technology
Research Intersts: The world today is vying for outpacing conventional forms of energy on numerous counts including research and development as well as investment. Sustainable renewable sources of energy like Photovoltaic and wind power are set to replace the conventional sources of energy in the near future, as the installed capacity from these two alone has increased by over 5000% and 658% respectively. Value addition to communities in Pakistan by using renewable resources constitutes my research platform as it motivates me to explore new avenues in the field of sustainable energy. Creating awareness among the masses by engaging them in my research for designing and developing on farm processing technologies; e.g. Scheffler fixed focus solar concentrator for the post-harvest processing of different agricultural products (PI) Fabrication, Installation and Operation of Biogas at UAF (PI) Renewable Energy Technologies in Pakistan (PI) Commercialization of IC engines for power generation from agricultural waste (PI) is the best way to enable Pakistan to deliver on its commitment to the 2030 UN agenda for sustainable development and progress.
Position & Department: Assistant Professor, Department of Energy Systems Engineering, Faculty of Agricultural Engineering & Technology
Research Intersts: Design, modeling and thermal engineering analysis of different RE technologies to improve the energy efficiency in agro-based processing systems. Computer simulation of conventional and new thermal processes to study the characterization of the involved factors in terms of processing suitability. Specific areas: Thermal process analysis and energy auditing, Process optimization, solar thermal applications in agricultural processes, Energy and exergy based thermal analyses. ANSYS-CFX; CFD modeling for developing next-generation energy efficient thermal processing technology.
Research Intersts: Microgrid (MG) concept is attracting considerable attention as a solution to energy deficiencies, especially in remote areas, but the intermittent nature of renewable sources and varying loads cause many control problems and thereby affect the quality of power within a microgrid. Hence, design and modelling of efficient and advanced control systems for energy management, frequency/voltage stabilization and maintaining power quality of AC/DC hybrid microgrid systems is fundamental factor for effective operation. Furthermore, designing of systematic Fault detection and diagnosis systems for power electronics and electrical machines are essential parts of power and electronics industry. Specific Areas: Standalone/Grid-connected Hybrid Microgrids; Artificial Intelligence based linear and non-linear Control systems, Sensor Networks, Smart Grids, Factory Automation and Fault Diagnosis, Battery SOC & SOH estimation systems, Power Converters
