Water Management Research Centre - Technology Transfer Program

Perforated Pipe Irrigation System.
The perforated pipe irrigation system has 100% conveyance efficiency and 70% application efficiency. It is a simple, easy to operate, low pressure and low cost system. It can be assemble easily using local material.
Promotion of Raised Bed Technology at Toba Tek Singh
The developed Four-Row Wheat Bed-Planting Machine was tested at the experimental area of Center, and then the technology was transferred to the farmers in district Toba Tek Singh under the Technology Transfer Program of University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. Results of Rabi 2006-07 under this program indicated 9.57% increase in wheat yield on an average, while average water saving was calculated as 43.32%.
Dissemination of Raised Bed Technology for Cotton and Maize under UAF Endowment Fund Secretariat funded Project
Raised Bed Technology was promoted at farmers’ fields specifically for cotton and maize in Tehsil T.T.Singh under this project. The conventional planting style was the use of ridges for planting of maize and cotton. Results revealed about 20% increase in grain yield of maize and 10-15% increase in cotton yield under raised bed planting as compared to conventional ridge planting. The project activities started in 2008 from zero cotton bed planting and more than 1000 acres were under cotton bed planting in 2010. This farmers’ adoption of technology on hundreds of acres in the project area is an indication of the high acceptance of this technology by the farmers.
Technology Transfer under On Farm Research & Development Component Project
Under this project, a package of Resource Conservation Technologies (RCTs) was introduced and is being promoted at farmers’ fields in the command areas of three distributaries viz. Khurrianwala, Kilianwala and Mungi, representing rice-wheat, mixed crop wheat and cotton-wheat zones, respectively. Different research, development and demonstration activities performed under this project include:

  • LASER Land Leveling on 3000 acres; 1000 acres on each site
  • Bed-Furrow Planting (Raised Bed Technology) on 3000 acres with 1000 acres on each site; giving 45-50% water saving with 10-20% increase in yield for wheat, cotton and maize
  • Bed-Furrow Planting of Rice giving 30% water saving with 25% increase in yield
  • Tunnel Farming demonstration and training regarding installation
  • High Efficiency Irrigation Systems; Establishment of model farms
  • Watercourse Lining; three on each site at head, middle and tail
  • Skimming Wells Installation; one on each site
  • Resistivity Meter Survey for Groundwater Quality
