Water Management Research Centre - Achievements

Efficient Irrigation System:
Low pressure, low cost efficient irrigation system has been developed and being demonstrated at Farmer’s fields. Many water saving interventions have been developed at Water Management Research Centre viz. Low Cost Orchard Spraying Machine, Ring Automatic Irrigation (RAI) System, Solar Saline Water Evaporator, etc.

The most important and recent development is the invention of 4-row Wheat Bed Planting Machine, which has now been upgraded to Multi Crop Bed Planter. Raised Bed Technology using this machine is being promoted at farmers’ fields and it has shown about 50% irrigation water saving as compared to flood irrigation with yield increase of 25% for all major crops i.e. wheat, cotton and maize. Recent experiments of rice on bed-furrow method have shown 30-40% water saving with almost 26% increase in yield.

Another important work at WMRC is the development of local pumping unit for Drip System. The drip irrigation is being introduced by promoting these locally developed power units.
