University of Agriculture Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Iqbal Zafar, while applauding Punjab Government’s approval in principal regarding up-gradation of UAF sub-campus Burewala as independent university, said on Friday that the Punjab government special initiatives, education and agriculture-friendly policies were opening up new chapters of glory and progress in the country.
Talking to faculty, he said Punjab Chief Minister was taking revolutionary steps to address the problem of masses and enabling them cope with challenges of modern era. He said that the government’s efforts will increase the income of a common man that will help alleviate poverty. He said that establishment of independent and full-fledged university would provide opportunity for the dwellers of Burewala and Vehari to quench their thirst of quality education at their doorstep. He said that the Punjab government had put agriculture on top of the development agenda and under which new methods were being introduced among farming community, helping per acre increment. He added that under the leadership of Secretary Agriculture Muhammad Mahmood, agro ecological zones were being redefined for flourishing the sector in the province. He said that Punjab Government had introduced Connected Agriculture Platform which was providing one lakh ten thousand smart phones, having agricultural apps in order to educate the farmers about latest methods, climate, soil fertility and others useful information. He added it will better the economic conditions of the farming community. He said the more than 60 percent of our population was depending upon the agriculture that is directly linked to the agriculture sector. He said that the secret of uplift of nations was laying in skilled manpower and quality education. He added that there was the need to establish universities in every district of the country. It will end the darkness of the ignorance with the light of education. He said that the government was providing scholarships worth billions of rupees to the students of deprived segment of society to continue their journey of education. He said the UAF had given birth to three universities including Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture Rawalpindi, Nawaz Sharif Agriculture University Multan and Ghazi University. He hoped that UAF Toba Tek Singh will also emerge as future university.
