The University of Agriculture Faisalabad on Friday observed World Statistics Day themed Better Data, Better Lives. In this regard, a seminar on the importance of statistics in our lives was arranged by the Department of Math and Statistics, UAF and a walk was taken out from Faculty of Agriculture to Faculty of Sciences, UAF.
Presiding over session, UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Iqbal Zafar said that statistical data with empirical evidence was vital to make the right decision making. He urged the scientists to conduct the research for the addressing problems of a common man. He said that the statistics was playing role in the development of the nation and society. He added that the theme of this year stresses the critical role of high-quality statistical information in analysis and informed policy decision-making for the sustainable development. It also reflects the importance of sustainable national statistical capacity to produce reliable and timely statistics and indicators in order to measure the progress. Faculty of Sciences Dean Dr Asghar Bajwa said World Statistics Day was celebrated for the first time on 20 October 2010 worldwide. The United Nations Statistical Commission declared the day. As of 2010, 103 countries celebrate a national Statistics Day, including 51 African countries that jointly celebrate African Statistics Day. Director Statistics State Bank of Pakistan Azizullah Khatak said that SBP has developed a strong statistical system to measure progress in term of import , export, foreign residence, balance of payment etc. He said that the one can take the help in the research from the data. SBP Senior Joint Director Data Warehouse Deparrtment Muhammad Ali said that data of the country was available in the website of the country sbp.org.pk . He said that research solving the problems of the country and a comom man was essential.
